Aspiring Cyclists from Across Globe Flock to Cuneo's Fausto Coppi Generali Race

The recent registration surge for the Fausto Coppi Generali race in Cuneo, Italy, has marked a significant milestone - now, a whopping 42 countries are represented among the participants. This influx comes as the new Tenda tunnel opens, and the charming town of Cuneo receives praise from Lonely Planet Italia, making it an August must-visit spot.

Anticipation is thick in the air as the three-day international cycling event approaches, and relief sweeps through the town as it feels closer to France, albeit with caveats.

Roberto Ricchiardi, president of Confcommercio Cuneo, shares his excitement, stating, "Fausto Coppi just keeps getting better every year. The commercial involvement continues to escalate, and tomorrow's 'Run The Night. Karhu x Cdf' event will add even more excitement to the atmosphere."

Between tomorrow and Sunday, roughly 4,000 ardent sports enthusiasts will find Piazza Galimberti as their pulsing heart. Giorgio Chiesa, president of the Association of Hoteliers and Tourist Operators in the Province of Cuneo and of WeCuneo, confidently declares, "For Cuneo and its valleys, Fausto Coppi remains a staple. Its numbers and impacts show that we must promote cycling tourism further, especially by keeping our roads well-maintained so that the gran fondo can contribute effectively."

Tommaso Bazzica, a 23-year-old engineering student from Bastia Umbria, has meticulously analyzed the impact of last year's gran fondo. The economic impact was a substantial 1.8 million euros, taking into account indirect and induced effects. The estimated number of visitors totaled 7,138, with 3,697 staying overnight. Each visitor spent around 61.73 euros per day on average.

The study, based on online questionnaires respondents from previous editions and provided parameters, reveals an eye-opening statistic: over half of the participants had previously taken part in at least one of the last three editions (2019, 2021, and 2023), with 16% participating in all three. This growth comes from a dedicated core and newcomers each year, hailing from different corners of the world.

This exquisite cycling event adds to the reputation of Cuneo as an inspirational destination for cyclists and tourists alike while fostering environmental awareness, strengthening community bonds, and promoting international cultural exchange.

Sports enthusiasts from around the world, on average, are showing a growing interest in the annual Fausto Coppi Generali race in Cuneo, Italy. For instance, this year, participants from 42 countries will tackle the cycling event.
