Bairstow and Hill Disqualified from Nexo Championship

The Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland has seen two high-profile disqualifications, with Sam Bairstow and Calum Hill both forced to withdraw from the tournament.

Before his disqualification, Bairstow was three-under through 13 holes, putting him in contention for a maiden DP World Tour title. However, a series of mistakes on the back nine saw his dreams dashed. Bairstow wrote down a five when he had apparently shot a seven at the 14th hole, including a penalty stroke he failed to account for. This error led to his disqualification according to the rules of golf.

Bairstow's mistake at the 14th hole resulted in a triple-bogey seven, followed by a double-bogey at 15 and another stroke dropped at the par-5 closing hole. This unfortunate turn of events came after a tough stretch for Bairstow, who has missed three cuts and withdrawn from another tournament recently.

Calum Hill's disqualification came the following day after he decided to pick up his ball and walk off the course during his second round following struggles on a difficult hole. Hill started the second round poorly and, after missing several putts on the par-4 eighth hole, chose to abandon the round, resulting in his disqualification from the tournament. Hill made a birdie on the par-5 first and a bogey on the second hole in his second round before his withdrawal.

| Player | Reason for Disqualification | |--------------|--------------------------------------------------------------------| | Sam Bairstow | Signed a wrong scorecard, underreporting his score on hole 14 | | Calum Hill | Withdrew (picked up ball and walked off) mid-round during 2nd day |

Prior to the tournament, both Bairstow and Hill were among the betting favorites for the Nexo Championship. Despite their early exits, Hill is not expected to fall beyond his current position of 26th in the Race To Dubai.

The cut line for the Nexo Championship was three-over, and Hill did not make it, while Bairstow was disqualified before the completion of the second round. Bairstow's only full week finish since May was a T65th at the Genesis Scottish Open. Hill made a birdie at the par-4 15th, but immediately dropped a shot at the par-3 next before his disappointing finish.
