Tour Mystery: Titleist Introduces a Pardoning Fairway Wood, Crafted for Professional Play
The golfing world is abuzz with excitement as Titleist unveils its latest addition to the GT family – the GT1 3Tour Fairway Wood. This innovative club, designed with direct feedback from professional players, offers a unique blend of tour-driven enhancements and the forgiving shape of the original GT1.
The GT1 3Tour shares the same shallow head as the GT1, providing a confidence-inspiring look. However, it stands out with several key differences. The GT1 3Tour features a slightly stronger or "tour" loft of 14.5° compared to the standard 15° loft of the original GT1. This design change, coupled with a lower center of gravity that is positioned closer to the face, achieved through a multi-material construction and a dual adjustable weighting system, reduces spin and allows for a more penetrating ball flight.
One of the most notable features of the GT1 3Tour is its adjustability. It includes a SureFit adjustable hosel and a dual weighting system, enabling players to fine-tune ball flight and spin characteristics more precisely. This feature, which the original GT1 lacks, makes the GT1 3Tour suitable for high handicappers and high swing speed players.
The GT1 3Tour is designed to deliver a high-launch yet low-spin trajectory with forgiveness, tailored especially for tour players seeking a shallow, easy-to-launch club with lower spin. In contrast, the standard GT1 is Titleist’s highest launching and most forgiving fairway wood, designed more for slower swing speeds to maximize carry and distance.
The GT1 3Tour comes with two standard weights of 11g and 3g for adjusting ball flight and forgiveness. It also boasts a redesigned hosel for more weight savings, which can be redistributed for desired performance. The club's lower and forward center of gravity contributes to its ability to create a more penetrating flight, launching a little lower and with a more powerful ball flight compared to the standard GT1.
The GT1 3Tour is priced at $399/£349 with stock shaft options and $599 with premium shaft offerings. It is now available for purchase and fittings on the Titleist US website and select retailers in the UK. This new fairway wood has already found its way onto the PGA Tour, with players like Doug Ghim and Cameron Davis using it in their games.
In summary, the GT1 3Tour retains the forgiving shape of the original GT1 but incorporates tour-driven enhancements such as a lower and forward center of gravity, stronger loft, adjustability options, and lower spin to suit higher-swing-speed players and on-tour performance needs. It is an ideal choice for golfers who struggle to launch their fairway woods, particularly off the deck.
