Tour de France comes to a close with Ben Healy claiming Super Combativity award
Ben Healy Wins Prestigious 'Super Combatif' Award at Tour de France 2023
Ben Healy, a rider from EF Education-EasyPost, has been crowned the winner of the coveted 'Super Combatif' award at the Tour de France 2023. This award is presented to the rider deemed the most aggressive or combative across all 21 stages of the race.
Healy's victory comes after a series of impressive performances, including a stage win at Vire Normandie and a second-place finish on Mont Ventoux. His aggressive riding style and relentless attacks earned him the title of the most combative rider on three occasions during the race.
The Irish rider's journey to the top began when he spent time in the yellow jersey after holding off the GC riders to claim it on the road to Le Mont-Dore. His overall performance, which included a ninth-place finish, solidified his position as a deserving recipient of the award.
Healy follows in the footsteps of his teammate Richard Carapaz, who won the award in 2024, and Dan Martin, who was the first Irishman to win the award in 2018. The prestigious award does not involve winning a jersey or being a general classification contender, but rather recognises riders who animate the race.
The final eight riders for the 'Super Combatif' award were announced by the Tour's organisers ASO ahead of stage 20. Healy was selected on this shortlist alongside Thymen Arensman (Ineos Grenadiers), Bruno Armirail (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Jonas Abrahamsen, Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek), Michael Storer (Tudor Pro Cycling), and Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates-XRG).
Other notable performances included Thymen Arensman's wins at Superbagnères and La Plagne, and Tim Wellens' escape on the road to Carcassonne, which resulted in a stage win. Jonas Abrahamsen also made his mark with a stage win from the break in Toulouse.
The 'Super Combatif' award comes with a trophy, podium time, and a cash prize of €20,000. The winner was crowned on the Champs-Elysees on Sunday evening, marking the end of an exciting and competitive race.
