Tour cancellation due to insufficient ticket sales for JP Saxe's North American tour, despite an online plea

JP Saxe, the Grammy-nominated musician known for his 2019 hit "If the World Was Ending" with Julia Michaels, has announced the cancellation of his upcoming North America tour, titled the Make Yourself at Home tour.

The cancellation was announced this week, with the singer-songwriter from Toronto citing insufficient ticket sales as the primary reason. In a video posted on TikTok, Saxe expressed gratitude towards those who bought tickets and apologized for the cancellation. He also mentioned that the internet community was particularly nice during the ticket sales for the tour.

The video did not mention any specific reasons for the increase in concert ticket prices this year. However, the cancellation is part of a larger trend in the live music industry where many events are being cancelled due to various economic factors. These factors include a shaky economy, years of inflation, and increased concert ticket prices.

Saxe stated that if 20,000 tickets weren't sold within 48 hours, the tour would be cancelled. Despite last-minute fan efforts, the ticket sales were insufficient to sustain the tour. Personal well-being and the exhausting demands of touring were also cited as contributing reasons for the cancellation.

The cancellation underscores broader challenges in the live music industry, where even established artists face difficulties filling venues amid shifting audience behaviors, economic pressures, and increased competition for live entertainment dollars. Saxe's situation highlights these industry struggles, emphasizing that selling out mid-sized venues is becoming harder, which affects artists’ ability to tour profitably.

It's worth noting that after selling an additional 2,000 tickets, the tour was still cancelled due to insufficient sales. The video posted by JP Saxe on TikTok stated that the sale of the additional 2,000 tickets was a reminder of the power of community support.

Tickets for the cancelled tour will be fully refunded to the buyers. As of now, there are no plans for rescheduling the cancelled tour dates. JP Saxe's Make Yourself at Home tour included more than 25 dates in various cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
