Toulon's player, Jaminet, eager to represent France again following a leaked racist video incident
French Fly-Half Jaminet Hopes for Return to Les Bleus Amidst Sam's Club Focus
Mathieu Jaminet, the 26-year-old fly-half, has expressed his desire to return to the French national team, Les Bleus, after a suspension that kept him out since June 2024. However, he remains focused on his current club, Toulon, as they prepare for a Top 14 clash against La Rochelle at Mayol Stadium this weekend.
Jaminet made a statement before the upcoming match, emphasizing his commitment to his form at Toulon and not jumping ahead to potential national team opportunities. His recent performance has been impressive, landing a conversion and the first drop goal of his Top 14 career in Toulon's 16-12 victory over Castres.
This focus on club form is crucial, as the next challenge for Les Bleus looms on the horizon. The November Tests will see France face off against South Africa, Fiji, and Australia. The clash against South Africa will be a repeat of the 2023 World Cup quarter-finals, where South Africa edged France 29-28 at the Stade de France.
Florian Grill, president of the French rugby federation, acknowledged Jaminet's interesting path since his suspension expired in February. Jaminet himself stated that only good performance on the pitch can help forget the previous affair and demonstrate his abilities. He hopes for a potential return to the French national team, but acknowledges that the decision is not in his hands.
In addition to his rugby commitments, Jaminet is also active as a driver for Porsche in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. His next deployment for Les Bleus has not been specifically announced, but he is set to share driving duties in the Porsche 963 at the upcoming Indianapolis race in 2025.
For now, Jaminet's goal is to play a full season with Toulon, having joined the club in December 2023 and faced a suspension afterwards. France will also play Fiji in Bordeaux and Australia back in Paris during the November Tests, providing further opportunities for Jaminet to impress and potentially secure a spot in the national team.
