As the mercury continues to rise, southeastern Canada is bracing for a mix of severe thunderstorms and a prolonged heatwave. According to Environment Canada, the conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms, particularly in Quebec and Ontario.

Heat warnings are still in effect across a significant portion of the region, from Windsor, Ontario, to St. John's, Newfoundland. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, with highs ranging from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, and a humidex of 37 to 42 degrees Celsius. However, southern Ontario is anticipated to experience a cooling trend by July 18.

Despite the impending cool-down, the heatwave is expected to persist in the Maritime Provinces. In these areas, heat warnings are still in effect.

In Ontario and Quebec, the heatwave is expected to dissipate by July 18, with temperatures returning to more moderate levels. For July 18, southern Ontario is forecasted to have a high of around 25 degrees Celsius with sunny skies, marking a break from the recent heatwave.

Quebec, specifically, is experiencing a unique combination of heat warnings mixed with severe thunderstorm warnings. The Outaouais, Mauricie, Centre-du-Quebec, Montreal, and Quebec City are among the regions under severe thunderstorm warning or watch. These thunderstorms could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain. There is a risk of sudden flooding in some areas due to these severe thunderstorms.

During heat warnings, it's crucial to stay alert for the first signs of heat exhaustion. Vulnerable loved ones should be checked on to ensure their well-being during these periods.

It's worth noting that a trough in central Canada might influence weather patterns, but no immediate severe thunderstorm warnings are reported. For the most current and detailed weather information, it's advisable to check local weather services or Environment Canada for the latest updates.
