Warning Levels Missing for Some Regions after Hefty Rainfall from Storm "Martinho" in Southern Spain
Torrential rains in southern Spain cause disappearance of two individuals
🔔IMEMO 🏹 Reddit 💌 Telegram 📧 Email 📄 Print Copy Link In the wake of Storm "Martinho" with torrential rain, two individuals are unaccounted for in southern Spain. The vehicle belonging to the duo was swept away by floodwaters in the province of Seville and was discovered empty on Tuesday, officials disclosed. The car was located upside down on a road in the municipality of La Puebla de los Infantes, roughly 85 kilometers northeast of Seville, a spokesperson detailed. "Two people are M.I.A.," she stated.
As a result of Storm "Martinho"'s heavy rainfall, wind, and waves, alert levels of yellow and orange have been issued in several provinces across the south, southeast, and central parts of the country on Tuesday. "We are still grappling with the influence of an Atlantic low-pressure system," the national meteorological agency Aemet stated. This low is responsible for "productive precipitation." From Thursday, Storm "Martin" is expected to bring rain and strong winds.
In the region of Murcia, nine individuals were saved from their vehicles by the local emergency service, stranded due to heavy rain. The weather disrupted road and rail traffic for the second day consecutively. Following nearly three weeks of persistent rainfall across the country, the levels of streams and rivers have also increased.
The recent rainfall is expected to end the protracted drought in Spain from 2021 to 2024. Water reserves have risen to nearly 65.8 percent - a significant increase compared to 56.8 percent last year and an average of 59.1 percent for this timeframe over the past decade.
Storm "Martinho" is the primary weather event currently impacting Spain, with adverse consequences for central and southern regions. However, there seems to be some confusion regarding another storm named "Laurence," as there is no information available that connects this storm to recent weather events in Spain.
