Torrential rain triggers landslides in the San Bernardino Mountains, causing chaos and destruction.

In the heart of the San Bernardino Mountains, the quiet town of Oak Glen was hit by a series of mudslides last week, triggered by heavy rainfall and pouring into the El Dorado Fire burn scar. As Tropical Storm Mario passed through Southern California, large sections of trees were uprooted and moved by the mudslides, causing damage to several houses in the area. The weather conditions were so severe that they forced the closure of Highway 38, with Caltrans closing the road due to rocks and mud filling the roadway. Casey Geib, the general manager of the Oak Glen Steakhouse, experienced the heaviest rain he's ever seen. He and his coworkers didn't hesitate to dig out everyone's car from the mud, ensuring the safety and mobility of their employees during this difficult time. Geib also mentioned that the mudslide this time was more aggressive than the last, and he thought he would never see mud at such a level again. Luckily, no one was injured during the mudslides. Nicole Comstock, an Emmy-nominated reporter at KCAL9 and CBS2 News, covered the breaking news at night in the Inland Empire. Comstock, who was raised in the Inland Empire, joined the team in June 2018 and provided updates on the ongoing situation in Oak Glen. San Bernardino County emergency crews are now conducting damage assessments from the mudslides, working tirelessly to restore the affected area. The governor of California during the 2025 mudslides was Gavin Newsom, who expressed his concern and support for the residents of Oak Glen. Interestingly, this was not the first time Oak Glen has been affected by mudslides. In 2022, a similar event occurred, sending entire trees into the Oak Glen Steakhouse. Despite the challenges, the community of Oak Glen continues to stand strong, working together to overcome the aftermath of these natural disasters.
