Hot Weather Alert: Thunderstorms to Sweep in as a Relief

brace yourselves, folks! After the scorching heat wave sweeping through Baden-Württemberg, relief is on the horizon - or should we say, above! This respite, however, won't come easy, as a blast of French heat is baking the region up to 36°C along the Rhine. The German Weather Service (DWD) is sounding the alarm for parts of the country, predicting a sweltering summer night in urban areas due to a lack of cooling, particularly in the south and west of Baden-Württemberg.

Don't let the scorching heat catch you off guard. The meteorologists' advice is simple: stay hydrated, even sans thirst, and avoid the blazing sun during the day. They also recommend keeping your body and living spaces chilled.

Weather Rollercoaster Ahead

Thunderstorms might make an appearance only after sunset on Thursday, served as a twilight chaser to the changeable weather we've been experiencing lately. Rain showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms await us, with a chance of severe weather and heavy rain from Ostalb to Bodensee. Temperatures will vary, with highs of 23°C in the mountains and up to 29°C in the Kraichgau.

Expect thunderstorms to dissipate gradually during the night leading to Friday, with the skies becoming clearer. Friday's weather is set to be sunny, with a high of nearly 30°C along the Rhine. The weekend promises to be warm and dry, with temperatures peaking at 33°C on Saturday, making it a perfect day for summer activities!

Beware of Forest Fires

Forest Fire warnings are on the rise in Baden-Württemberg, with the second-highest level issued for most DWD locations. This level four out of five suggests "high danger," and Grill and fireplace bans in the forest are a common sight due to the persistent drought.

  • As the weather takes a rollercoaster ride, the community policy may need to address potential risks associated with the upcoming thunderstorms.
  • Employment policy should also consider safety measures for outdoor workers during the heat wave and the subsequent thunderstorms, especially for those working in forestry or outdoor activities.
