In Chiapas, Mexico, an early warning system has forecast heavy and intense rains for this Wednesday in various regions, including Valles Zoque, Altos Tzotzil Tzeltal, Metropolitana, Meseta Comiteca Tojolabal, Selva Lacandona, Tulijá Tzeltal Chol, De los Bosques, Mezcalapa, Norte, Soconusco, Istmo-Costa, Sierra Mariscal, Frailesca, De los Llanos, and Maya.

According to the advisory, the Valles Zoque, Altos Tzotzil Tzeltal, Metropolitana, and Meseta Comiteca Tojolabal regions are expected to receive heavy rains of 25.1 to 50 millimeters. The Selva Lacandona, Tulijá Tzeltal Chol, De los Bosques, Mezcalapa, and Norte regions are forecasted to experience intense rains of 75.1 to 150 millimeters. The Soconusco, Istmo-Costa, Sierra Mariscal, Frailesca, De los Llanos, and Maya regions will experience very heavy rains of 50.1 to 75 millimeters.

The Secretariat of Civil Protection reported damage from landslides, river overflows, road collapses, and suspension bridge failures in the Sierra Mariscal region. In the San Francisco neighborhood of Siltepec, the Tachinula River overflowed, causing flooding that damaged four homes, two of which were totally destroyed. The population in the San Francisco neighborhood is currently isolated due to flooding and has no power. No new information about the status of the suspension bridges, road collapses, or flood barriers in any of the affected regions was provided.

In addition, the Secretariat of Civil Protection reported a landslide and a river overflow in the San Antonio neighborhood of the El Triunfo community in the municipality of Siltepec, affecting two suspension bridges, two homes, and a flood barrier. No new information about the damage in the San Antonio neighborhood was provided.

Civil Protection brigades are actively working to clear road collapses in various sections of Bellavista and in the Sierra of Honduras. No new information about the efforts of Civil Protection brigades or committees in Chiapas to clear road collapses was provided.

Despite the challenges, the communities in Chiapas are resilient and are working together to overcome the effects of the heavy rains. The authorities continue to issue advisories and are urging the population to stay informed and to take necessary precautions.
