On a fateful evening of July 25, 2025, a thunderstorm cell passed over the city of Borna, bringing with it a torrential downpour. The storm, which hit at approximately 19:00, would go on to cause significant disruption and damage.

The first alarm sounded for the Borna fire department at 20:18, with reports of a vehicle overturned on the highway. This marked the beginning of a long and arduous night for the firefighters. A total of 43 deployments were made due to the storm event, with the number of incidents increasing significantly, requiring the local command post at the Borna fire station to be occupied.

The city center of Borna became a focus, as dozens of basements were filling up with water. Water entered a public building, triggering the fire alarm system, and in an underground garage in the city center, the water was 50 cm high. No fire was found when smoke detectors in an apartment went off, but the situation was assessed at each individual deployment site to ensure everyone received the help they needed.

The storm brought a massive amount of rain, causing flooding in various parts of the city. Shortly after the first reports, more damage had to be cleared after 9:30. The Sachsenallee, a major street in the city center, resembled a river spreading over all adjacent areas. The members of the Borna and Thräna fire departments were called to another flooded fire alarm system, which lasted for over 3 hours.

Incident Commander Kai Noeske was visibly pleased with the immense effort and dedication shown by the volunteer members. He also thanks the fire departments of the surrounding communities that offered their support. Despite the challenges, the community of Borna showed resilience and unity, coming together to face the storm's aftermath.

As of July 30, 2025, no publicly available news or reports were found describing the flooding incident in Borna specifically or on that date. However, the impact of the storm on the city is evident, and the community's spirit of resilience shines through.
