Toronto's Blue Jays recall Gimenez from the injured roster
Toronto Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez Struggles with Injuries and Mixed Performance
After a three-month stint on the injured list due to a left ankle sprain, Andres Gimenez returned to the Toronto Blue Jays' lineup in early June 2025. Since his return, Gimenez's performance has been a mix of decent offensive contributions and inconsistency, primarily due to recurring ankle issues.
Gimenez, a three-time Gold Glove award winner, has played 24 games since his return, slashing around .250/.341/.350 with 2 home runs, 9 runs scored, 12 RBIs, and 10 steals out of 11 attempts. However, his base-stealing activity has been limited due to the ankle problems affecting his base running.
Prior to his injury, Gimenez's 2025 overall season stats were underwhelming, with a .218/.300/.322 slash line, 5 homers, 23 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in 61 games. This represented a career-low OPS+ of 73 and an OPS of .626, suggesting some offensive struggles likely linked to the injuries and inconsistency.
Gimenez has also faced multiple ankle injuries in August 2025, including one that forced his removal from a game after tweaking his ankle while running from first to third base. This ongoing ankle trouble could lead to further time on the injured list for proper healing.
Despite these setbacks, Gimenez has had some notable performances recently, such as going 3-for-5 with a run and RBI against the Yankees and hitting a three-run homer in another game. These moments demonstrate flashes of his potential when healthy.
The Blue Jays, who view Gimenez as a valuable asset given his age (26) and defensive skills, still see him as a crucial part of their team. However, the injuries have limited his ability to contribute consistently thus far this year.
The Blue Jays opened a three-game series against the visiting Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. With Gimenez's current status as active but injury-affected, it remains to be seen how he will perform in the coming games and whether he can regain his usual form.

After his return from the injured list, Andres Gimenez of the Toronto Blue Jays has struggled with both injuries and mixed performance, showcasing flashes of his potential but failing to deliver a consistent output, particularly in the MLB. Despite this, the Blue Jays continue to view Gimenez as a crucial asset due to his defensive skills and youth.
