Toronto Blue Jays Fans Boost Seattle Tourism Despite Predicted Drop in International Visitors

Seattle is witnessing an unexpected boost in tourism, despite forecasts of a significant drop in international visitors this year. Daniel Fleming, a local artist and vendor at Pike Place Market, has noticed a notable presence of Toronto Blue Jays fans in the city during the ongoing American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners.

Tanya Canavan, president of Visit Seattle, is thrilled to see these Canadian visitors, despite the predicted 26% decrease in international visitors, largely due to political tensions and tariffs between the U.S. and Canada. Fleming, who has family in Canada, understands the hesitation of Canadians visiting the U.S. but is glad to see Blue Jays fans defying the trend.

Fleming has observed a decline in tourists from Korea and China but reports no such decrease in Canadian visitors. He believes Toronto Blue Jays fandom travels well and supports local businesses during their visits. The Besseys, siblings from Saskatoon, are among these visitors. They traveled to Seattle for the games, undeterred by political tensions. Kurt and Tracey experienced more scrutiny at the border this time but remain optimistic about their trip.

While Visit Seattle predicts a 26% drop in international visitors this year, the presence of Toronto Blue Jays fans in the city offers a glimmer of hope. Fleming apologizes to Canadians for any rhetoric that may have caused discomfort but believes people should not be defined by their government's actions. The Besseys' visit, despite increased border scrutiny, reflects the resilience of international tourism.
