American Running Back Khalan Laborn Released by Toronto Argonauts

Khalan Laborn, a versatile American running back with multiple stints in the Canadian Football League (CFL), has been released by the Toronto Argonauts. Laborn played five games for the team in the 2025 season, contributing on both offense and special teams.

In his brief tenure with the Argonauts, Laborn rushed 18 times for 58 yards and scored one touchdown. He also caught five passes for 36 yards. Prior to joining Toronto, Laborn played six games for the Ottawa Redblacks in the 2024 season, where he rushed 58 times for 310 yards and scored one touchdown, and caught 23 passes for 152 yards.

Laborn, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 212 pounds, has had four previous CFL stints with the Edmonton Elks, Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He is known for his versatility, as he can contribute both in the running game and passing game as well as on special teams.

Throughout his career, Laborn has amassed 82 games in the CFL, with 35 special teams tackles and a forced fumble. He has been part of three Grey Cup championship teams.

The Toronto Argonauts, currently standing at 2-7, will visit the Edmonton Elks (2-6) on Friday, August 15. The team has been under scrutiny after a loss to the Ottawa Redblacks, with head coach Ryan Dinwiddie calling out "pretenders" in the locker room following the defeat.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson, who has been starting at quarterback for the Argonauts since the departure of Nick Arbuckle, will likely continue to lead the offense. The team will be looking to bounce back from their recent loss and improve their standing in the CFL East Division.

Laborn's brief tenure with the Argonauts, despite his touchdown in American football, could not prevent the team's loss during the 2025 season. His versatility in both American-football sports (rushing and receiving) was showcased in his CFL games, contributing to his gloomy departure from the team.
