Local Car Mechanic Crowned Schützenkönig of Eutiner Schützen Gilde

Torsten Wirges, a 57-year-old car mechanic from Eutin, has been crowned the new Schützenkönig (shooting king) of the Eutiner Schützengilde, a historic shooting guild founded in 1668. The crowning moment came on the evening of August 18, 2025, during the Königsschießen (king's shooting competition) at exactly 20:41 hours.

Wirges, who works in a family business, has been a member of the Eutiner Schützen Gilde for ten years. His victory in the Königsschießen earned him the nickname "der Sportliche" (the athletic one). The title was bestowed upon him after he successfully knocked down the remaining part of the wooden bird with the "golden shot," following a tip from his marksman assistant Heiko Godow.

The Königsschießen was held after a brief rain delay. In the contest for the king’s title, Wirges competed against Holger Grundt, Gerrit Proch, and Tjark Lüth. As the wooden bird fell after his 22nd shot, Wirges expressed great surprise and joy. He succeeded Ralf Rose "the Magnificent" as Schützenkönig.

Wirges is a native of Eutin and a proud father of two children aged 16 and 17. He was crowned as the new Schützenkönig on Monday evening, and his victory has been celebrated by the Eutiner Schützengilde and the community of Eutin.

Wirges, the new Schützenkönig, is not only a car mechanic but also a skilled marksman, demonstrating his athleticism during the Königsschießen. His victory over other contestants, including Holger Grundt, Gerrit Proch, and Tjark Lüth, has brought pleasure and pride to the Eutiner Schützengilde and the community of Eutin.
