Topo Chico's glass-bottled mineral water vanishes from US stores temporarily

Topo Chico mineral water in glass bottles has disappeared from US shelves for now. The shortage follows production problems at the brand's Mexican facilities. Coca-Cola, which owns the brand, has confirmed delays but expects supplies to return later this year.

The issue began when geological problems at the water source in Monterrey, Mexico, disrupted production. Over the past two months, output slowed due to well complications and facility upgrades. These challenges led to quality concerns, forcing a temporary halt on orders.

Only the mineral water in glass bottles is affected. Other Topo Chico drinks, such as flavoured sparkling waters, remain widely available. Coca-Cola acquired the brand in 2017 for $200 million, and it has since become a key product in its portfolio.

Despite the setback, the company is investing in improvements at the source. These upgrades aim to boost production and stabilise quality. Meanwhile, sales of Topo Chico and other waters rose by 4% in Coca-Cola's latest quarter, driven largely by demand in North America.

The glass-bottled mineral water is set to return in the third quarter of the year. Coca-Cola's fixes at the Mexican site should address both supply and quality issues. Until then, customers will need to choose alternative Topo Chico products or wait for restocking.
