Germany's under-21 handball team breaks records in Poland's U21 World Championship, securing a spot in the main round with a bang! Can they keep up the momentum against rival opponents?

The German U21 handball team, headed by coach Martin Heuberger, caught everyone's attention with a thrilling win over Switzerland in their opening match at the U21 World Championship in Poland. The team's recent victory, a crushing 43:33 (21:14), alongside their earlier 30:29 victory against Serbia, has the team ready to take on the main round of the tournament.

Facing off against Switzerland – who had previously won against Tunisia 41:31 – this game was all but over by the midway point. Even senior men's coach Alfred Gislason was astonished by Germany's relentless performance. "Our team started superbly, and after 20 minutes, it already looked like a sure victory," he remarked. "That was a fantastic team performance!"

Gislason has already called up several players from the 2023 World Cup squad to the senior national team - with Nils Lichtlein, David Späth, Renars Uscins, and Justus Fischer now mainstays in the men's national team. Regarding the new generation, Gislason commented, "I was pleased with the performance of the backs. Overall, the guys had the Swiss completely under control."

Up next for the team is Tunisia, the winless bottom team in Group G, on Saturday at 9:00 PM CEST. With eight players from the 2023 winning team set to play, stars to watch include Henri Pabst of THW Kiel and Tim Göllmer of HC Erlangen, both tallying eight goals apiece.

In the main round, the DHB juniors will face challenges from both Spain and African champions Egypt. "Those are both quality opponents we're not scared of," Pabst asserts. "If we play like we did today, we can compete with the best!"

Germany's impressive streak of three consecutive wins puts them in a strong position for the main round matches on June 23 and 24, where points from group matches carry over. Previous winter demanded courage and perseverance from Switzerland as they eventually clinched the last spot in the main round. With topplers like Germany, Spain and Egypt, the tournament promises to be exciting and nail-biting!
