Top Three Potential Free Agency Destinations for Naz Reid after his stint with the Timberwolves
The Minny Timberwolves might be facing some major roster changes next season, with Julius Randle and Naz Reid both having significant decisions to make about their player options. Randle's option is for $30.9M, and Reid's $15M option seems likely to be declined, making him a free agent.
The Pistons could jump at the chance to add a versatile big man like Reid, particularly with Cade Cunningham's salary climbing to $46.4M next season. Even though the Pistons are projected to have $19M in cap space, signing Reid may not be a walk in the park. There's competition from the Wolves, and Detroit's salary cap could also be tied up by re-signing Malik Beasley, Dennis Schröder, and Tim Hardaway Jr.[1]
The Knicks, who boasted a potent roster this past season, may be another team vying for Reid's services. With $200M in salary and four roster spots available, they could use some depth, especially in terms of scoring. Reid's knack for scoring and his ability to stretch the floor could be exactly what they need to cement their spot as an Eastern Conference contender.[2]
Lastly, the Lakers, in search of a reliable center, might also find appeal in Reid's game. With Christian Koloko and Alex Len failing to cut it, the Lakers could look to Reid as a ways to bolster their offensive production in the paint.[3] However, their limited cap space could pose a challenge - but don't count them out just yet! They have the 2031 first-round pick, five-year pick swaps, former first-round pick Dalton Knecht, and over $70M in expiring contracts (Austin Reaves, Dorian Finney-Smith, Rui Hachimura, Maxi Kleber, and Gabe Vincent) to potentially swing a deal for Reid.[3]
With Reid's potential to bring in big bucks - possibly starting at $20M/year if he hits the open market - the race to secure his services will undoubtedly be intense. Stay tuned to find out where he'll end up!
