Top-ranking Russian tennis players find themselves among the elite athletes in Sochi
The Tennis Academy Sochi, a highly anticipated project, received approval from Gosekspertiza back in 2020 and is now set to open in Sochi's resort area. This academy is expected to bolster the city's growing tennis community.
Approximately 2,500 people are currently involved in tennis in Sochi, with around half of them being children. This indicates a strong interest in the sport among the city's residents, particularly the younger generation.
The academy has already made its mark on the local tennis scene. The Krasnodar team, which is expected to be one of the academy's main representatives, lost only to teams from the Republic of Tatarstan and St. Petersburg, showcasing their competitive spirit and potential.
In a recent national tournament held in Kazan, the men's team from the Krasnodar region finished in third place. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as the tournament involved 12 women's teams and 9 men's teams, making it a highly competitive event.
The success of the local tennis players is also evident at a national level. The bronze medals in the men's category of a recent tournament were won by Sochi residents Evgeny Kafelnikov, Astamur Katsia, and Eduard Saakyan. These victories serve as a testament to the academy's potential to produce top-tier tennis players.
As the Tennis Academy Sochi prepares to open its doors, the city of Sochi and its tennis enthusiasts eagerly await the opportunities and successes that this new academy is set to bring.
