Charity Ice Hockey Game Raises Funds for Emergency Personnel in Cologne
On Sunday, June 4, 2023, a charity ice hockey game was held at Cologne Arena 2 to support the injured emergency personnel from the May 11, 2023, accident in Ratingen. The event, organised by local organisers associated with the police, Fire Museum Ratingen, and other institutions, attracted a significant crowd, including NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul, Cologne's city director Andrea Blome, Cologne's police chief Schnabel, Mettmann district administrator Thomas Hendele, Ratingen's fire protection department head Harald Filip, and Ratingen fire chief René Schubert.
The game, which was streamed live, pitted Backdraft Cologne against the Bull Sharks of the police. Dr. Miller, the head of Cologne's fire department, was among the players for Backdraft Cologne. The audience's applause was particularly reserved for the injured emergency services personnel.
Backdraft Cologne emerged victorious with a score of 6:4. The funds raised from the game will go to the Association for the Promotion of Fire Protection in Ratingen e.V., with donations being made to the IBAN DE81 3345 0000 0042 1116 74, with the reference "Berliner Straße".
