Top Highlights at the Goodwood Revival Event
The Goodwood Revival, often hailed as the best automotive event of the year, once again proved to be a spectacle not to be missed. Over the course of the weekend, more than 130,000 visitors gathered at the Duke of Richmond's Sussex estate to witness a thrilling display of vintage racing.
The event was filled with period attire from the 1940s through 1960s, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the proceedings. The Goodwood Revival parking lots showcased an array of pre-War Bentleys, Peugeot P4, Fifties Ford Galaxies, Sixties Aston Martins, mid-Sixties Ford Mustangs and Camaros, and a Ford Country Squire with wood sides.
On the track, some of the most iconic vehicles of the era took centre stage. The Sopping Wet Royal Automobile Club Race featured 1963 Corvette Stingrays, 1964 Cobras, 1965 Bizzarrinis, and early Sixties Jaguar E-types. A 1960 Lotus 19, powered by a Ferrari V12, and two Lola T70 spyders in the Whitsun Trophy Can-Am race, added to the excitement.
Legendary drivers such as Jacques Villeneuve, Jenson Button, Scott Dixon, and Tom Kristensen were among those who graced the track with their presence. Tom Kristensen won the St. Mary's Trophy race on Saturday, while Richard Kent and Tom Ingram took top honours in the Sopping Wet Royal Automobile Club Race.
However, the event might have experienced a cuteness overload due to the Settrington Cup. This pedal car race for toddlers and tykes was a delightful addition to the Revival, with some of the children participating being the progeny of famous racing drivers. When asked about his celebration plans after winning the Settrington Cup, one driver quipped, "I've no clue. I'm just going to leave that to the parents to figure that out."
The Settrington Cup also featured a Le Mans-style running start and colour commentary from Goodwood's announcers. Unfortunately, an all-aluminium bodied 1962 Tojeiro ee-Ford lost control, spun out, and slammed into the wall during the Sopping Wet Royal Automobile Club Race. Thankfully, no major incidents were reported elsewhere.
The Sopping Wet Royal Automobile Club Race was moved up due to imminent heavy rain, adding an element of unpredictability to the proceedings. Despite the challenges, the Goodwood Revival 2022 was a resounding success, proving once again why it is considered the best automotive event of the year.
