With a total score of 43:33 (21:14), the youthful German handball squad has locked in their place in the main round of the U21 World Championship, hosted in Poland. Guided by coach Martin Heuberger, this promising team added another impressive win to their collection, having prevailed with a nail-biting 30:29 victory against Serbia on Wednesday.

Facing a comparatively weaker Swiss counterpart, winners of their opening game against Tunisia by a score of 41:31, the match ended surprisingly early. Even the country's senior handball coach, Alfred Gislason, was taken aback by the relentless determination displayed by the German youngsters. "The guys put in an outstanding performance," Gislason said, surprised by how swiftly the team gained control of the game. "I expected a tightly contested match that wouldn't be decided until the final stages, but instead, our team performed exceptionally well from the start, and after 20 minutes, the outcome looked already assured."

Gislason has already called up no fewer than eight players from the 2023 World Championship senior team, with Nils Lichtlein, goalkeeper David Späth, Renars Uscins, and Justus Fischer now established members of the men's national squad. "The wing players have the best opportunities to be included in the senior team, but today I was equally thrilled with the performance of the backs," Gislason shared, assessing the new generation that he may rejoin in Poland, should they reach the semifinals. "Henri Pabst played an exceptional first half, while both goalkeepers were top-notch. All in all, the team handled the Swiss with ease."

Taking on Tunisia, the weakest team in Group G, in their final group stage game on Saturday (9 pm/Dyn), eight players from the 2023 triumphant squad will once again be in action. The highest German scorers of the game were Henri Pabst, a standout player from record champions THW Kiel, and Tim Göllmer of HC Erlangen, both registering eight goals each. As they advance to the main round, the DHB juniors will face the U19 World Championship champions of Spain and African champions Egypt[4].

"Those are opponents we needn't fear," U21 team captain Pabst declared. "Against Spain, we may not be seen as favorites, but if we play like we did today, we can go toe-to-toe with them and give them a run for their money."
