Top 10 finish for Céline Boutier at NW Arkansas Championship, Sarah Schmelzel and Minami Katsu in front-running positions
In the opening round of the championship in Arkansas, a thrilling battle unfolded as several players showcased their skills.
The day's standout performance came from Minami Katsu, who posted a stunning round of 63, setting the pace for the rest of the field. Katsu's remarkable round saw her share the lead with Sarah Schmelzel, who carded a score of -8.
Schmelzel, reflecting on her round, said, "Overall, I think it was a perfect day. I was trying to reach 100% success on the fairways. I didn't manage it on the 18th, which is a bit disappointing."
Nasa Hataoka, the world number 7, found herself in 3rd place, tied with Alison Lee, Lilia Vu, Leona Maguire, Somi Lee, and Carlota Ciganda, all with a score of -7. Hataoka, who did not drop a single bogey in the first round, will be looking to build on this strong start.
Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, who started the day impressively with a score of 67, found herself in 34th position (-4) after the first round. Meanwhile, Perrine Delacour, who had a tough start with three bogeys in her first six holes, managed to recover and finish the round with a score of 69, placing her in 66th position (-2).
Céline Boutier, tied for 9th place (-6 total) after the first round, also had a noteworthy round, scoring a 65. World number two Nelly Korda, despite a score of 69, found herself tied for 66th place after the first round.
Interestingly, Adela Cernousek, who had four birdies and one bogey in the first round, and Carlota Ciganda, who has already won on the American circuit this season (Meijer LPGA Classic), are also tied for 9th place.
As the tournament progresses, it will be intriguing to see if Schmelzel and Katsu can maintain their lead, or if the chasing pack, led by Hataoka, Lee, Vu, Maguire, and Ciganda, can mount a challenge. The youngest golfer in the tournament, currently in 124th position with a total score of +1, will be hoping to make a move up the leaderboard in the coming rounds.
