Took place a gathering between Toqaev and Miguel Moratinos
In the heart of Kazakhstan, a gathering of global leaders took place, as the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions brought together representatives from various faiths to discuss unity, peace, and harmony.
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, praised the consistent support and efforts of the UN Alliance in organising this significant event. The UN Alliance, a key platform for promoting understanding and respect between civilizations, cultures, and religions, co-organised a special session on the protection of religious sites alongside the Kazakh side.
During the Congress, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Miguel Angel Moratinos on receiving the Astana International Prize for his substantial contribution to interreligious dialogue. Moratinos, who previously led the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), was also appointed as the UN Special Envoy to combat Islamophobia.
The UN High Representative expressed hope that the outcomes of the Congress would contribute to strengthening peace, harmony, and interreligious dialogue. This sentiment was echoed by Tokayev, who welcomed Moratinos' appointment as the UN Special Envoy.
In addition to the Congress, the President also held meetings with various religious leaders. These included a meeting with representatives of Jewish organizations and a meeting with Patriarch Theophilus III of Jerusalem.
Kazakhstan attaches great importance to its cooperation with the UN Alliance of Civilizations, and this event further underscores the nation's commitment to fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting peace and understanding worldwide.
