In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Final Destination: Bloodlines marks not just the rebirth of a classic horror series, but also the swan song of Tony Todd, one of its cornerstone actors. Known for his distinguished voice and gruff tones, Todd revisits the role of William Bludworth for what seems to be the final time in this franchise.

With a collective box office revenue of $657.62 million, Final Destination: Bloodlines stands as Todd's last cinematic hurrah before his untimely demise on November 6, 2024. The acting legend, famed for his leading role in the original Candyman franchise, wrapped up his scenes for Final Destination: Bloodlines shortly before his passing.

"We've known him for about 28 years," reflects co-producer Craig Perry during a Los Angeles screening Q&A. "Tony was kind, considerate, and an endless professional. Being on set with him was a pleasure for everyone. He left us with a legacy of energy, charisma, and generosity."

Final Destination: Bloodlines hits theaters on May 16, 2025, and carries an R-rating.

Perry revealed that during preparation for Todd's exit, they encouraged him to "say what you want the fans to hear," making his final words on set deeply personal. This gesture highlights the care and respect the production team had for the actor and his legacy.

A key player in the production of the Final Destination series, Perry has also lent his talents to the American Pie movies.

The film's co-director Adam Stein offered more insights about Todd's moving scene, stating, "Everyone involved knew his condition, and it was a unique moment as he spoke about his own death. It was a deeply meaningful moment where he shared his wisdom and thoughts about life and death directly with the audience." Todd's renowned filmography includes classics such as The Crow, Platoon, The Rock, Wishmaster, Hatchet, and Tom Savini's remake of Night of the Living Dead.

Todd had always held a desire to portray Bludworth once more. However, in an interview with Forbes.com in 2019, he confirmed that he wouldn't return for financial reasons alone. "It would depend on the script," Todd stated. "I wouldn't want to do something just for the sake of doing it. If the script is fresh and challenging, providing new light on established characters, I'd be eager to be a part of it."

Sequel featuring Tony Todd as William Bludworth in the horror film

A quarter-century has passed since the first Final Destination hit theaters, and over a decade since the release of the fifth installment in the franchise. The only Final Destination film that Todd didn't appear in was Final Destination 3; however, he lent his voice to an animatronic devil statue at the beginning of the movie. Currently, all Final Destination films are available to stream on Max.

Discussing the delay in bringing Final Destination: Bloodlines to the big screen, Perry shared, "After the release of the fifth film, we took a break and started the process around 2018. However, complications such as Covid-19 and strikes pushed the production further. But these obstacles have only made fans anticipate the film even more."

Co-producer Sheila Hanahan Taylor adds, "We aimed to breathe new life into an eagerly anticipated sequel. With the addition of Jon Watts and his innovative ideas, we were finally able to move the project forward."

Why Final Destination: Bloodlines is Worth the Wait

Avoiding spoilers, Final Destination: Bloodlines ups the ante in terms of the signature, blood-curdling demises that fans love. However, crafting these sequences presented its own challenges.

"It's this intricate balance of making familiar and seemingly mundane environments feel malevolent and sinister, as if death itself is manipulating objects," explains Perry. "We discarded an early draft that took place in a supermarket. Although it seemed promising, it was simply too convoluted. We learned that it's essential to workshop these sequences meticulously, ensuring everything is plausible, captivating, and on the razor's edge of believability."
