The image shows a group of people sitting on the ground in front of a building, with some of them holding musical instruments. There are mics with stands, bottles, and other objects scattered around them, and a carpet on the floor. In the background, there are buildings with windows, plants, trees, and the sky. It appears to be a live performance of a band in Berlin.

Ton Steine Scherben's legacy lives on with a bold new trio

Few German rock acts have created songs that remain as powerful and relevant half a century later, according to a press release ahead of their upcoming performance. Ton Steine Scherben are still regarded as a defining exception—their music timeless, direct, and socially resonant.

The Band's Musical Legacy Lives On

Founded in West Berlin in 1970 by R.P.S. Lanrue, Rio Reiser, Kai Sichtermann, and Wolfgang Seidel, the band's legacy endured even after Reiser's death in 1996, continuing with shifting lineups over the years.

Today, two of the band's most influential members—Kai Sichtermann and Funky K. Götzner—still take the stage as part of the "Scherben" project. Since 2023, singer-songwriter Birte Volta has joined the ensemble, infusing the classic material with fresh energy through her blend of folk, blues, and rock 'n' roll. Together, the trio reinterprets Rio Reiser's and R.P.S. Lanrue's iconic songs, reviving the spirit and defiance of a turbulent era.
