"Tomsk Festival Book Sales: Which Books Will Be Offered in Part III"

Let's Get the Latest on the Tomsk 'TOM III' Arts and Reading Festival!

Hey there bookworms! In around two weeks, the fourth iteration of the Tomsk TOM Arts and Reading Festival will unfold in the University Grove. As RIA Tomsk's event partner, we're here to fill you in on the publishers and books you can expect to see there.

Back in 2022, the inaugural book festival was a joint effort by the State Museum of Visual Arts (GMIIS) and Tomsk State University (TGU). Now, rebranded as the TOM Arts and Reading Festival, it's already held twice in September. The fourth TOM is set for May 2025.

Traditionally, a book fair will pop up near TGU's main building, featuring approximately 30 publishers — both big-name and smaller ones that might be hard to find in bookstores. The fair will run from 15 May, 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and 16-18 May, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For a detailed program (18+), check out their website.

Now, let's dive into some highlights of the publishers and books you'll find at this year's festival:

  • Gnosis (Moscow)

Gnosis is an editorial and trading house for humanitarian books focusing on linguistics, philosophy, history, sociology, and more. They will also be distributing works by publishers like "Yazyki slavianskoy kultury," "Znak," "Logos," "Vladimir Dal," SPIF "Nauka Sbp," and will present their assortment at the festival.

  • New Literary Review (Moscow)

Periodicals and books published by "The New Literary Review" have been included in programs for the education of humanities students in Russian universities, as well as in US, Canadian, German, and Finnish universities.

The founder and chief editor of the publishing house, Irina Prokhorova, will also be attending on 15 May to participate in a discussion titled "HOW TO READ WELL," kicking off the festival.

  • Makushin Media (Tomsk)

Tomsk's independent publisher "Makushin Media" focuses on tourism, culture, and local history, sharing interesting stories about cities and people.

You can find their books like the "Tomsk: Travel Guide for the Curious" and the updated "Journey to Elan," along with maps of Tomsk's districts labeled "NoNo1" and "NoNo2," and a series of 16 striking illustrations of Tomsk's landmarks like wooden and stone architectural treasures.

  • V-A-C Press (Moscow)

V-A-C Press is a publishing arm of the V-A-C foundation and the Dom Kul'tury "GES-2." Their goal is to make key overseas works accessible to Russian readers. V-A-C Press releases specialized and popular literature on contemporary and classical art, classical art history, post-humanities, gender studies, anti-colonialism, and children's books.
