Tomorrow's Horizon

Missouri is gearing up for the launch of sports betting, with the December 1st date marking a significant milestone in the evolution of sports wagering in the United States. This development is a testament to the power of voter-driven initiatives, shaping the future of sports betting in the country.

The Missouri Gaming Commission has received applications from ten sportsbook operators before last Friday's deadline. Notable names in the list include DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, ESPN Bet, and Circa. Penn Sports Interactive, the company behind ESPN Bet, has chosen Hollywood Casino and River City Casino as their launch points in Missouri.

FanDuel has also partnered with Major League Soccer franchise St. Louis CITY SC, while Bet365 has teamed up with the St. Louis Cardinals, the MLB team that helped spearhead the 2024 ballot initiative to legalize sports betting in Missouri. The Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis CITY SC are among Missouri's professional sports franchises, adding to the excitement surrounding the upcoming sports betting rollout.

The Missouri Gaming Commission will review operator applications during public meetings on September 23-24. Temporary licenses are expected to be issued to operators on October 22, giving them six weeks to prepare for the December 1 launch. Customer sign-ups and deposits will begin on November 17, followed by the first legal wagers at midnight on December 1.

Operators must submit detailed house rules and internal control systems by September 26. Revenue from sports wagering in Missouri will be taxed at 10%. The competitive landscape of Missouri's sports betting market is expected to be robust, given the involvement of national operators and the state's strong base of professional sports franchises.

It's important to note that as of now, there are no available search results indicating which companies have submitted applications for an online sports betting license in Missouri. However, additional applications from operators who mailed forms by the September 12 postmark cutoff are still possible.

Consumers in Missouri can look forward to a wide range of choices when the first wagers are placed this winter. With the launch of sports betting just around the corner, Missouri is set to join the growing list of states offering legal sports betting, offering a new avenue for sports enthusiasts to engage with their favourite games.
