Tommy's Fate Unveiled in Coldwater Finale: A Review of His Destiny (spoilers included)
In the small Scottish town of Coldwater, the six-part series follows John (Andrew Lincoln) and his family as they settle into their new home. Amidst the tranquility, a series of unsettling events unfold.
John and Fiona invite Tommy and another Fiona for lunch, hoping to find a missing box. However, the peaceful gathering takes a dark turn when John gets into a tussle with local yob Angus in the woods. Tragically, Angus dies, but it's not John who finishes him off - it's Tommy.
This incident sets off a chain of events. Nathan's ring is found at John and Fiona's house, leading to suspicions about John's involvement in Nathan's subsequent murder. Tommy, played by Ewen Bremner, is accused of being the killer, but he insists John is the deranged one.
Cameron, John's son, continues to believe his father is innocent, while Rebecca spreads the story that John is guilty. This divide within the community intensifies, with Cameron suspecting John and Rebecca supporting her claim.
Meanwhile, Tommy's past comes knocking. Williams, a determined figure, confronts Tommy, taking his rifle and ordering him to release John. But Tommy escapes, leaving everyone in a state of confusion.
Tommy's box, containing many pieces of jewelry, is found by John, causing speculation about how many people Tommy may have killed. This speculation is further fuelled by the disappearance of Tommy, with no trace of him found.
Rebecca, who seems to know more than she lets on, gives John a coded message to let him know she's cutting him adrift. She also advises Tommy to run when Fiona is out of earshot, leading to questions about her involvement in the series of events.
Moira Jane, who discovers her father's box of trophies, believes he is guilty as well. Catriona tells Moira Jane that Tommy tried to strangle her, adding another layer to the mystery.
The book group continues to meet at Tommy's house, with Rebecca finding it reassuring. However, the series ends with Rebecca talking to her congregation about forgiveness, but it's clear that everyone in Coldwater is unaware of the extent of her knowledge about Tommy's crimes.
John survives the altercation and continues to live in Coldwater, but the town will never be the same again. The mysteries of Coldwater remain unsolved, leaving the audience eager for more.
