Tom Pidcock set to debut at UCI Gravel World Championships in October
Tom Pidcock Mulls Gravel Worlds Debut
Looks like Tom Pidcock might make a splash at the UCI Gravel World Championships, set for Maastricht in October. Initially slated for France’s Côte d'Azur, the decision to move the event's location was due to some technical reasons, although future editions may see France host the races again, as the 2025 edition is scheduled for Nice.
Excited about the prospect, Pidcock expressed interest in joining the start list, following a stellar performance at the Giro d'Italia. With the Vuelta a España being his next race, he's planning a competitive season end, targeting the one-day races to go for wins.
Known for shining in gravel sectors, Pidcock's gravel credentials include the Strade Bianche victory in 2023 and a second-place finish behind Tadej Pogačar earlier this season. Last year, he also secured a second place on the gravel stage of the Tour de France, missing the win in a sprint finish to Anthony Turgis.
The Gravel Worlds has been a successful platform for both men's and women's WorldTour riders since its inception in 2022, with Mathieu van der Poel and Marianne Vos grabbing the top spots in the men's and women's races in 2024. Matej Mohorič and Kasia Niewiadoma previously clinched the elite rainbow jerseys.
Recently, Pidcock visited the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre and hit the town for a well-deserved curry with his partner after receiving an OBE at Buckingham Palace. A more in-depth interview with Pidcock will be published later this summer on our website magazine.
