In an exclusive chat with Sight and Sound magazine, the ever-energetic Top Gun star Tom Cruise reminisced about his collaboration with ex-wife Nicole Kidman on the legendary Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, Eyes Wide Shut.
Reminiscing about the early 2000s, Cruise confessed to discussing a possible partnership for a future project. When the topic surfaced, it triggered a whirlwind of memories, particularly one sensitive topic he wished to avoid.
The 62-year-old action legend admitted he engaged in a lengthy conversation with filmmaking maestro Martin Scorsese before signing on to take the lead role.
He shared, "I dropped by his home, landing right in his backyard. I'd just received the script the day prior, and we spent the whole day discussing it. I've always admired all of his films. The encounter was mostly about us getting to know each other better. During our conversation, I warmly recommended Nicole for the leading lady's role, for her obvious talent."
Revealing his thoughts on Eyes Wide Shut, Cruise claimed the film was an intriguing narrative, one that served its purpose well.
Meanwhile, the charismatic actor is anxiously anticipating his BFI Fellowship recognition, an honor bestowed upon a select group of influential figures in the industry, including the likes of Akira Kurosawa, Robert Altman, Cate Blanchett, Orson Welles, Martin Scorsese, and Michael Caine.
