Nick Offerman, lighting up conversations about an old high school spat with Tom Cruise.
The charming character from Parks and Recreation still carries a whiff of resentment towards the dashing Top Gun: Maverick sensation, dating back to his school days.
During his latest stint at The David Letterman Show, Offerman shared his feelings of annoyance.
"Back then, they had those sections - President material, jail-bound, you know," Offerman mused, recalling the incidents. "And I was all fired up because everyone knew I was the solitary dreamer yearning to become an actor. They even had 'most likely to emulate Tom Cruise.' Sadly, I missed the mark."
Astoundingly, the title that had seemed destined for him went to another student. Instead, he was bestowed with the moniker of "one who might host The David Letterman Show."
Years later, however, Offerman halted Cruise in his tracks, sharing the screen with him in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Ironic twist!
He confessed his emotions upon working with his stunt-loving co-star on the set, "By day's end, I told my wife Megan, 'I'm smitten with Tom Cruise.' It felt like I was enrolled in a Charisma Masterclass or received a protagonist's Ph.D."
"Come shooting hours, I was like, 'The film can go hang, I'd take a bullet for you, Tom. Sign me up for bodyguard duty,'" he added, displaying his admiration.
Offerman also commended Cruise's relentless determination on the set.
"There's a reason they say the best politicians lock eyes - Cruise does that. You're left thinking, 'Wow, yeah no, I'm honestly stereotypically into woodworking.' That's his superpower," he admitted.
