Tokyo Film Fest Kicks Off with Junji Sakamoto's Climbing For Life, Closes with Chloe Zhao's Hamnet
The 38th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFFCOM) has announced an exciting lineup of events and guests. The festival will kick off with Junji Sakamoto's Climbing For Life and close with Chloe Zhao's Hamnet, which has already gained international recognition on IMDb.
TIFFCOM's keynote seminar will be led by Tetsu Fujimura, CEO of Filosophia and executive producer of Netflix's One Piece. The festival also revealed its gala and animation selections, with Tokyo Taxi, a drama by Yoji Yamada, taking the Centrepiece feature spot. Tokyo Taxi stars Baisho Chieko and Kimura Takuya and is based on the French film Driving Madeleine.
Chloe Zhao's Hamnet, based on Maggie O'Farrell's 2020 novel and starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, will close the festival. The film has already won the People's Choice Award at Toronto. Zhao will also receive the prestigious Kurosawa Akira Award at TIFFCOM in Tokyo. Liza Marshall, a UK-based producer known for Hamnet, will participate in the Screen Summit event 'Building on the UK's Global Success'.
