Tokayev Drives CIS Transformation with Tech Initiatives and Cultural Rapprochement
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan is driving a transformation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) into 'a space of creation and progress'. He has proposed several initiatives to foster technological development, cultural rapprochement, and streamline operations.
Tokayev, the main initiator, is focusing on digitization and technological advancements. He proposed creating a Unified Digital Transport and Logistics Map of the CIS to ease border operations and reduce congestion. This was discussed at the CIS summit in Dushanbe. Additionally, he suggested establishing the Association of Creative Industries under the CIS to promote common historical heritage and traditions using modern technologies.
To facilitate high-quality translations and support multilingualism, Tokayev launched the International Organization of the Russian Language. This initiative aims to translate classics and contemporary authors' works into and from the languages of CIS nations. Tokayev also emphasized the importance of developing cultural and humanitarian ties, viewing it as a strategic element of Kazakhstan's soft power.
In pursuit of broader cooperation, Tokayev initiated the 'CIS Plus' format. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has been granted observer status in the CIS. Furthermore, Kazakhstan is transitioning to a technological model of interaction with Russia, prioritizing trade and industrial cooperation.
President Tokayev's vision for the CIS includes a focus on technological development, cultural rapprochement, and efficient border operations. His initiatives, such as the Unified Digital Transport and Logistics Map, the Association of Creative Industries, and the International Organization of the Russian Language, aim to transform the CIS into a space of progress and mutual understanding. Kazakhstan's commitment to cultural diplomacy and multilingualism is expected to enhance its international influence.
