How I Cracked the August 27, 2024 Connections Code
Although I'm more of a puzzle novice, I recognized a few NBA team names – CLIPPERS, HEAT, THUNDER, and MAGIC. Sadly, these don't mix together in today's puzzle.
SOOTHE, WHISPER, MURMUR, and HUM fit the description of calming sounds.
SIZZLE, BURN, and HEAT provide a sneak peek into the world of spicy food intensity.
Tonic and Aftershave could be associate with classic barber shop.
BLACKJACK, POKEMON, BIDWHIST, and UNO fall under the category of card games.
To Play Connections:
Head over to the or use their (formerly Crossword app) to locate the Connections game. Your aim is to group four tiles with a common bond. These groupings could be the same type of object or involve clever wordplay, for example, BUCKET, GUEST, TOP TEN, and WISH, which fall under the category of list types.
Conquer Connections:
To succeed in Connections, you must recognize that the groupings are intentionally pilfered from simpler categories. Each category will often share some words of disadvantage. For example, a puzzle once included six breakfast items: BACON, EGG, PANCAKE, OMELET, WAFFLE, and CEREAL. However, BACON turned out to belong to another category, consisting of painters, along with CLOSE, MUNCH, and WHISTLER, while EGG became a member of a dozen-themed group, including JUROR, ROSE, and MONTH. So, make adequate browsing to ensure all four items within your group exclusively belong to that group.
If you're stuck, scour the words that appear to have no connection to the others. If ALL YOU CAN THINK OF when you look at WHISTLER is the painting famously known as "Whistler's Mother," you might be growing wise. When I sorted that one out, I performed further web searches to verify if CLOSE was a painter, as I was uncertain if it fit with any identifiable categories.
Another approach to win when you're feeling stuck is to consult helpful hints, such as this one. Daily hints can help you explore new themes every day!
