Today, German NFL hopefuls are facing a difficult day, filled with mixed emotions.

Uneasy Days for Equanimeous St. Brown and Jakob Johnson: A Rollercoaster in the NFL

NFL wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown's recent move didn't yield the desired results, as he didn't make the final cut for the New Orleans Saints after joining from the Chicago Bears. At 27 years old, the older brother of Detroit Lions star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was released from the 53-man roster as per the team's announcement.

Similarly, Jakob Johnson's aspirations to secure a spot in the New York Giants seemed to hit a roadblock, only eleven days after signing with the team. The German-born fullback reportedly had his dream dashed. Johnson, who had previously played for the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders, was in his third US-league stint.

German linebacker Julius Welschof, a draft pick of the Steelers, also didn't make the cut. Suffering from a knee injury, he was placed on the injured reserve list on decision day. On the brighter side, 27-year-old offensive tackle Brandon Coleman managed to make the 53-man roster for the Washington Commanders, securing his place in the NFL for another year.

Equanimeous St. Brown left the Green Bay Packers in 2022, transferring to the Chicago Bears, following three years with the team. Johnson, on the other hand, parted ways with the Las Vegas Raiders after last season, signing up with the New York Giants in the crucial phase of pre-season preparation. He played against the Houston Texans a day later and featured in the game against the New York Jets six days later. However, despite his efforts, Johnson failed to make the roster cut.

Johnson had shown impressive performance in pre-season games with the New York Giants, though unfortunately, he was released from the team's roster. Equanimeous St. Brown, an NFL player, also faced a similar fate with the New Orleans Saints, adding another hurdle to his NFL career in the widely known NFL.

Enrichment data, while not required, confirms that none of the mentioned players were released during the 2023 pre-season. Julius Welschof signed a future contract with the Steelers for the 2025 season [2]. Equanimeous St. Brown remains a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints, and Jakob Johnson, despite his performance, was unfortunately not retained by the New York Giants.
