To secure a spot in the WTC Final in 2027, Team India needs to win how many games more following their victory in the Oval Test?

India's victory in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy against England has put them in a strong position for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final in 2027. The Shubman Gill-led team secured a 6-run win, thanks to stellar bowling performances from Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in the second innings.

This win, however, didn't qualify India for the recently held WTC Final match. But it has leveled the 5-match Test series against England and has earned India 12 points, pushing their percentage in the WTC Points Table to 46.66.

Looking ahead, India will play two games each with West Indies and South Africa at home in October and November, respectively. These upcoming matches will be the last away series for India in the current WTC cycle. In 2026, India is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka and New Zealand for two games each.

To qualify for the WTC Final game in 2027, India needs to win a certain number of matches, which is yet to be specified. However, according to reports, India needs to secure 11 more wins and a draw (already secured) in the remaining matches of the 2025-27 WTC cycle to reach about 136 points, aiming for a Percentage of Points (PCT) around 63%, which should be enough to qualify for the WTC Final.

The importance of winning home series against West Indies and South Africa cannot be overstated, as these are considered favorable matchups. Similarly, winning in Sri Lanka and performing well in the New Zealand series will also be key before the high-stakes series against Australia at home.

India's schedule for the rest of the cycle includes four two-match series: West Indies (home), South Africa (home), Sri Lanka (away), and New Zealand (away), and a crucial five-match home series against Australia in early 2027. Given the total points available, winning these upcoming series will be critical.

India currently stands 4th with a PCT of 33.33 after 4 matches and 16 points, with the top two teams qualifying for the final. England, who slipped one spot and moved to fourth position in the WTC Points Table, will be India's next opponents at home in October.
