Atlanta Falcons Advance to Qualifier 2 of CPL 2025
The Atlanta Falcons (AF) have secured a spot in Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, following their impressive 9-wicket victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders in the eliminator match.
In the eliminator, the Knight Riders managed to score 166 runs in their innings, with Andries Gous top-scoring for them with 61 runs and Amir Jangoo contributing 55. The highest second-wicket partnership for the Knight Riders in CPL history was between Gous and Jangoo, who put together 108 runs.
However, it was AF's bowling performance that restricted the Knight Riders to a manageable total. Saurabh Netravalkar took three wickets for 23 runs, while Usman Tariq claimed two wickets for 19 runs. Colin Munro was dismissed by Rahkeem Cornwall during the AF chase.
In response, AF's opening batsman Nicholas Pooran took centre stage with an unbeaten 90 runs, securing the win with a final six off Jayden Seales. Pooran unleashed a flurry of boundaries, hitting two sixes off Cornwall's final over, and surviving two LBW reviews during his knock. Alex Hales provided stability for AF, contributing an unbeaten 54.
With this victory, AF have advanced to Qualifier 2 and will face the Guyana Amazon Warriors next. The exact opponent for the Warriors will be decided in the second eliminator match between the Saint Lucia Kings and the Barbados Royals.
This is not the first time the Atlanta Falcons have made it to the Qualifier stage of the CPL. They have been a dominant force in the tournament, winning the title on multiple occasions. With Pooran's form and the team's strong bowling attack, they will be a formidable opponent for any team they face in the Qualifier 2.
