Titled Thriller Review: "Black Rabbit" on Netflix, Starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law, Involving Brotherly Ties, a Fashionable Eatery, and the Criminal Underworld
In the bustling city of New York, a new thriller has made its way onto Netflix – "Black Rabbit". This exciting series stars the talented Jason Bateman and Jude Law in a riveting tale of crime, drama, and intrigue.
The show centres around Jake Friedkin, the owner of a popular restaurant named The Black Rabbit. In the first episode, titled 'Brother F***er', we find Jake preparing for a visit from a New York Times critic, a month after a busy night at the restaurant. This scene, while potentially annoying to some viewers, sets the stage for the high-pressure environment that Jake finds himself in.
Jason Bateman delivers a riveting performance as Vince Friedkin, Jake's estranged brother, who returns to New York after being attacked by thugs who want money he owes to a loan shark. Bateman's portrayal of a likeable scumbag character is undeniably captivating.
The first episode also introduces us to the VIP room, where a robbery takes place, but the victims are not immediately clear. Meanwhile, Troy Kotsur, an Oscar winner, plays Joe Mancuso, a criminal boss to whom Vince owes $140k, but he does not appear in Episode 1.
The show features electric scenes between Bateman and Law, showcasing their different personalities being closer than they think. Odessa Young plays Gen, Vince's estranged daughter, but only a glimpse of her is seen in the first episode. Side characters like Jake's ex Val, chef Roxie, or troubled bartender Anna are barely introduced, leaving room for further development in upcoming episodes.
"Black Rabbit" shares similarities with shows like "The Bear" and "Ozark". The series also features a busy restaurant and an event space, adding to the chaotic yet captivating atmosphere.
One intriguing plot point involves Anna, the bartender, who bails on Jake the night the Times critic is supposed to attend, opening up an opportunity for Vince to fill in. However, more seems to be going on with Anna, hinting at a complex backstory that will likely unfold throughout the series.
Estelle is played by Cleopatra Coleman and Wes is played by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù in the Netflix series. With its engaging characters, gripping plot, and fast-paced action, "Black Rabbit" is a thrilling addition to Netflix's lineup. Don't miss out on this exciting new series.
