Title: 'Him' Encompasses Engrossing and Unsettling Themes, However, Falls Short in Delivering a Coherent Conclusion

In the upcoming film, "Him," directed by Justin Tipping, the worlds of horror and sports collide for the first time. Marlon Wayans delivers a captivating performance as Isaiah White, a football star with a sinister side.

Isaiah White, the greatest quarterback of all time (GOAT), invites Cameron Cade, a star college quarterback with aspirations of being drafted into the pros, to his compound to train. Cameron, played by Tyriq Withers, is a 27-year-old actor born in Jacksonville, Florida. His performance is star-making and holds its own against Wayans.

The film's tension comes from its exploration of sports in general, rather than the strange and potentially cultish elements that surround Isaiah White. The horrors of fame and fortune are at the forefront, with the film delving into the violence, hero worship, drug use, aggression, obsessions, and cold, hard cash in the world of sports.

Tim Heidecker plays a muted, comedic character who is one of Isaiah's obsessive fans. The film's protagonist, Cameron, finds himself struggling with his own ambitions as Isaiah discusses the sacrifices he made to achieve greatness.

The inciting incident in the film is a mysterious and violent attack on Cameron, which is largely forgotten about for the majority of the film. The third act of the film is wild, gory, and satisfying, but the excitement is not evenly distributed throughout.

The film ends with a lot to discuss in terms of narrative and themes, but feels out of balance. Despite this, "Him" is a compelling watch that provides insights into the DC Universe, Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who.

"Him" opens in theaters on September 19. Don't miss out on this unique blend of horror and sports.
