He took his first steps in the world of melodies under the watchful eye of his father, a violist in the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin. Little Nothart, however, soon found his calling, switching from the violin to the clarinet at the age of seven.

Unfurling His Clarinet Skills

With a newfound passion for his instrument, Nothart dedicated himself to honing his craft. He attended the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin under the tutelage of Prof. Ewald Koch. After his years of study, he mountained the ranks to become the solo clarinetist at the renowned Staatsoper Berlin in 1977.

Competitive Spirit: A Hallmark of Greatness

Throughout his journey, Nothart's unyielding competitive spirit never waned. He entered numerous prestigious international competitions, taking home top honors. Some of his most noteworthy victories include competitions held in Prague in 1971, Markneukirchen in 1974 and 1976, Geneva in 1979, and the Kurpinski Competition in Poland in 1981.

The Elbphilharmonie echelon

In 1981, Nothart claimed his most significant achievement yet: becoming the solo clarinetist in the Elbphilharmonie Orchestra. Since then, he's also been moonlighting as the Solo Clarinetist in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival.
