Werder Bremen Struggle to Find Goals in Pre-Season Matches

Werder Bremen have faced challenges in their recent pre-season matches, particularly against Bundesliga opposition. The Green-Whites lost both test matches against Hoffenheim, 0:1 and 0:3, highlighting their struggles to find the back of the net.

The attacks were well-executed during the second match against Hoffenheim, but Bremen still failed to score. In contrast, the first game saw the team struggle to get into the game, with coach Steffen expressing dissatisfaction with the defending.

The absence of key attacking players due to injuries has significantly weakened Bremen’s offensive potency. The talismanic wingback Mitchell Weiser, who contributed five goals and ten assists last season, is sidelined for at least six months due to a major ACL injury. Furthermore, Marvin Ducksch and Jens Stage are also out with injuries, leaving a void in Bremen's attacking options.

Coach Steffen has a lot of work ahead, particularly in the attack, as Bremen couldn't score against Hoffenheim. Despite the losses, Steffen remains optimistic about Bremen's ability to learn to score goals.

The team's defense also lacked intensity during the matches against Hoffenheim. The mood among Bremen players was a bit flat, and the weather during the training camp in Austrian Zillertal was rainy, making the pitch heavy and legs tired.

Werder has set their sights on another striker, André Silva, but he didn't convince when he was loaned to Bremen in the second round. Expectations are high for Mbangula, and Steffen is eager for more new additions to the squad. Werder still wants Silva, along with an outside defender, but time is running out before the start of the Bundesliga.

After three goalless test matches, Bremen headed home feeling tired and somewhat disappointed. Keke Topp, Justin Njinmah, and Samuel Mbangula (who missed the game due to capsule problems) couldn't earn any points on Friday. Coach Steffen expressed hope that Mbangula can train again next week, but it's not certain yet.

The pre-season matches have provided a glimpse into the challenges that Bremen will face in the upcoming Bundesliga season. The team will need to address their goal-scoring issues and find a way to create and convert chances effectively. With the season fast approaching, time is running out for Steffen and his team to find solutions.

In an attempt to enhance their goal-scoring abilities, Werder Bremen might consider training sessions with Radio Bremen, broadcasting updates of European-leagues' top football matches, to immerse the team in high-level competitive action. need to add more options to their attack, especially with key players like Mitchell Weiser and Marvin Ducksch still sidelined with injuries.
