Race Preview: Newbury and Ayr

In the spotlight at Newbury today is the highly-regarded El Megeeth, a horse with a promising pedigree and an impressive second-place finish at Ffos Las. El Megeeth, who boasts a close relation to Tanaza, a dual Group 3 winner, and a half-sister to five more winners, will be looking to build on her strong performance. Last time out, she finished second behind a promising sort with a subsequent winner in third.

El Megeeth's best Racing Post Rating of 81 was achieved on her sole turf start at Ffos Las in July. However, she faced the useful Pearla at Kempton last month and narrowly missed out on victory. With more experience under her belt, El Megeeth could have even more to come now handicapping on grass.

Graeme Rodway has selected "Tagesspiele" for the race at Newbury.

Meanwhile, over at Ayr, the focus is on Beautiful Diamond, a horse with a proven track record at the course. Two years ago, Beautiful Diamond won the Harry Roseberry Stakes as a juvenile, and she is expected to bounce back from a poor run and perform well due to the easier conditions.

Beautiful Diamond's last visit to Ayr resulted in a dead-heat with Azure Blue. She also has a form figure of 112 at Listed level, with two victories at Ayr. With her previous success at the track, Beautiful Diamond is expected to put up a strong performance.

Valley Of Flowers, another contender at Ayr, won the 1m5f handicap at the course in 2022 and 2023. Her last encounter with soft ground was at Carlisle in July, where she was beaten just half a length. Valley Of Flowers shaped as though she'd be suited by the return to 1m5f when staying on after getting outpaced over shorter at Thirsk last time.

However, it's worth noting that Valley Of Flowers arrives off a higher mark than for either of her previous wins in this contest.

As the races unfold, it will be interesting to see how El Megeeth and Beautiful Diamond fare, and whether Valley Of Flowers can repeat her past success at Ayr.
