Tinubu's Acceptance Finding Approval from North - Insight by Daniel Bwala
Northern Region Comfortable with Tinubu's Governance, Says Presidential Adviser
In a recent interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, stated that the northern region is "extremely comfortable" with the President's governance approach.
According to Bwala, the administration's efforts in sectors such as infrastructure, security, energy, and agriculture have delivered on key electoral promises, resulting in tangible benefits that have fostered trust and willingness to back Tinubu for a second term. Northern leaders like Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe have acknowledged these benefits.
However, the President's approach has not been without criticism. Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, had previously claimed that the North will work against Tinubu's re-election in 2027, alleging that the President has neglected the North by cutting the region off from ongoing federal projects. No new information was provided about Lawal's allegations or his current stance.
Bwala noted a separation between the outcry by Nigerians and the agenda cooked by opposition politicians. He emphasized that President Tinubu is making conscious efforts through various policies to address the issues affecting the North. The presidency, too, has stated that the North is comfortable with Tinubu's approach to governance.
The administration has deployed numerous top officials from the North to engage with northern stakeholders and address concerns, recognizing the region's political weight and voting power. Tinubu's government has also aimed to develop the North as an agribusiness hub through collaborations with the private sector.
Despite this, opposition groups such as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) contend that the North has been sidelined in federal budget allocations and infrastructure development under Tinubu's administration. Many northern voices express dissatisfaction with perceived unequal policy priorities despite their electoral support. This indicates a complex political dynamic where, although official northern leadership publicly praises Tinubu’s delivery and sustains electoral support, there is an underlying tension regarding perceptions of neglect among some segments.
In conclusion, the northern region's overall comfort with Tinubu's approach stems from delivered promises and tangible progress in key sectors backed by political leaders, even as some opposition and grassroots critiques persist about neglect and imbalance in development focus.
