Tinubu Wishes for No Repeat of Curse in 2027 - According to Okonkwo

Former APC Chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo Criticizes Tinubu's Leadership as Two-Year Anniversary Approaches

In a strongly worded statement, actor-turned-politician and former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has offered a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu's two-year tenure as he prepares to mark the milestone. Okonkwo urges the opposition parties to unite and present a viable alternative to the ruling APC, highlighting the current administration's focus on power retention over addressing pressing national issues.

During President Tinubu's state-of-the-nation address, he noted the country's improved performance despite ongoing challenges such as economic hardship, a rising poverty rate, unemployment, and insecurity. To justify his economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the adoption of a flexible exchange rate, Tinubu argued that the reforms were necessary to prevent a national fiscal crisis.

Tinubu expressed his commitment to transforming the country by implementing two immediate policies: removing fuel subsidies and dismantling the corruption-ridden multiple exchange rate windows. These, he said, were no longer sustainable and had become a burden on the country. Despite increased living expenses, Tinubu claimed that the nation had made significant progress, with inflation declining and rice and staple prices decreasing.

While Tinubu's second year in office has been marked by claims of progress, Okonkwo paints a different picture, describing it as one marred by corruption, incompetence, deception, hunger, and insecurity. In a Twitter post, Okonkwo expressed his discontent, saying, "Today marks two years of incompetence, corruption, deceit, waste, hunger, insecurity, hardship, deprivation, and degradation of Nigerians under Tinubu."

Okonkwo further criticized the APC's recent endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election in the Northwest region, describing it as an unrepresentative gathering of political elites, disconnected from the needs of over 60 million people. He found the endorsement particularly concerning in light of escalating insecurity, poverty, and tragedies such as the recent killing of 15 people in Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State.

Okonkwo emphasized that democracy should prioritize the voices of the people and not be controlled by a group of power-hungry individuals. As he remains politically active, Okonkwo is currently engaged in coalition negotiations aimed at offering a new direction beyond his former party, the Labour Party.

In conclusion, Okonkwo's appraisal of Tinubu's second year in office is one of harsh criticism and a call for a united opposition to address Nigeria's pressing challenges, rather than focusing on political power consolidation by the ruling APC.

  1. Okonkwo, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), discredits Tinubu's leadership as he nears the end of his second year, advocating for opposition parties to unite and provide a viable alternative to the APC.
  2. During Tinubu's state-of-the-nation address, he acknowledges ongoing challenges like economic hardship, rising poverty rates, unemployment, and insecurity, but defends his economic policies as necessary to prevent a national fiscal crisis.
  3. Tinubu, in pursuit of transformation, proposes removing fuel subsidies and dismantling multiple exchange rate windows, arguing they are unsustainable and a burden on the country, despite increased living expenses.
  4. In contrast, Okonkwo paints a grim picture of Tinubu's leadership, describing it as riddled with corruption, incompetence, deceit, hunger, and insecurity, as he marks the two-year milestone in office.
  5. Criticizing the APC's recent endorsement of Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, Okonkwo considers it a gathering of political elites disconnected from the needs of the majority, highlighting issues such as escalating insecurity, poverty, and tragedies like the killing of 15 people in Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State.
  6. Okonkwo advocates for a democratic system that prioritizes the voices of the people rather than a group of power-hungry individuals, and is currently involved in negotiations to form a coalition offering a new direction beyond the Labour Party.
