Tinubu Respecting Rule of Law Is Good News, Says Wike Regarding Sowore

In the political landscape of Nigeria, a series of events involving activist and presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have sparked controversy.

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, has found himself in legal trouble with the Department of State Services (DSS). The DSS has filed criminal charges against him, accusing him of defamation and breaching Nigeria's Cybercrimes and Terrorism Prevention laws. The case is ongoing, with the future hinging on court proceedings and potential political developments.

The controversy deepened when Sowore described President Bola Tinubu as a "criminal" on social media. In response, the DSS urged social media platforms to remove the post. However, Sowore refused to delete the tweet, describing the DSS's action as an attempt to silence dissent.

Meanwhile, Minister Wike has weighed in on the situation, expressing that in this country, anyone can abuse the president without consequence. Wike also stated that Sowore should be grateful for a president who respects the rule of law. He further warned against politicizing the FCT Civil Service and stressed that allowances and other entitlements would be settled once due procedures are completed.

Wike also dismissed threats of demonstrations and insisted on following due process concerning FCT Civil Service issues. He declared that nobody can stop him from holding an occasion or making decisions regarding the FCT. In a show of support, Wike stated that if the Permanent Secretary of the Treasury presents the bill for allowances, they will be paid.

The FCT administration has made strides in other areas, with the allocation of ₦25bn to health capital projects in the 2025 budget. This investment is aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and services in the FCT.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings and political tensions, it remains to be seen how these events will unfold in the days ahead.
