Rivers State is set for a change of leadership as the emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2023, has come to an end. The six-month rule, which suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly, was lifted on Wednesday.

However, the governor-elect, who was authorized on March 17, 2023, and is expected to return to office on May 18, 2023, remains unnamed in the provided search results.

The political feud leading to the emergency rule involved Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Ann-Kio Briggs, an environmental and human rights activist, has been vocal about the unjust declaration of the emergency rule. She spoke in Port Harcourt on Thursday, arguing that the President did no favour to the people by lifting the rule.

Briggs also expressed her support for Governor Fubara, stating that she and the majority of women in Rivers State have backed him. She emphasized the future of good governance, peace, security, and development in Rivers State, saying it remains to be seen.

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also appealed to Governor Fubara not to abandon the party. Hakeem Olalemi, the PDP Vice-Chairman (Lagos Central), urged Fubara to remain committed to the people's mandate and govern without fear. Olalemi also emphasized that Fubara should make Rivers State great again and nurture the party that brought him to power into a bigger platform.

Despite the political turmoil, the people of Rivers State continue to support Governor Fubara. As he prepares to take office, the question remains: what does the future hold for Rivers State under his leadership?
