Gear up, America! The news is abuzz that former national team star Timo Werner is all set to hit the US soil, following reports suggesting his impending move to Major League Soccer (MLS).

After a rough stint at Tottenham Hotspur, Werner, now 29, seems to be in pursuit of a new sporting fortune across the Atlantic. The Leipziger Volkszeitung points towards his potential move to Red Bull New York, according to multiple media reports.

Despite his contract with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig lasting until the summer of 2026, the club may have to bid adieu to a significant portion of the transfer fee to offload the high earner from their payroll.

Werner saw 41 appearances for Spurs, but managed just three goals. Upon this lacklustre performance, Spurs decided against a permanent signing, choosing not to register him for the Europa League, which they eventually won.

In New York, Werner would rejoin his former Leipzig teammate, Emil Forsberg. The club is under the guidance of Sandro Schwarz, former coach of 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Werner's last Spurs appearance came in the closing stages of February 2025 against Manchester City. Injuries and public criticisms for his attitude have been floating around since former coach Angelos Postecoglou's dismissal.

Werner's best season was the 2019/20 period, scoring 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga games, making him second only to top scorer Robert Lewandowski. He then moved to Chelsea for a whopping €53 million in the height of his career. Two years later, Leipzig brought him back for €20 million and loaned him to the island in January 2024. It now appears that Leipzig and Werner's paths have come to an end.
