The UCI Road World Championships 2025, held in the picturesque landscapes of Rwanda, promises an exciting line-up of time trials for both men and women.

In the women's category, Chloe Dygert, the two-time world champion against the clock, is among the favourites. Dygert, who won an Olympic gold medal in the track event last summer, will be hoping to bounce back from a crash in the time trial event at the Olympics in Paris last year, where she settled for a bronze. Her main competition is expected to come from Anna Henderson of Great Britain, who won a silver medal in the time trial at the same event.

British rider Zoe Bäckstedt, competing in the U23 category, has already shown her prowess with three time trial victories this year. Meanwhile, Demi Vollering of the Netherlands, who will be competing in both the road race and time trial, is another favourite for the time trial. Vollering's team-mate, Juliette Labous, is also a contender in the time trial.

In the men's category, Remco Evenepoel of Belgium, who is both the defending champion and Olympic champion, has won four time trials this year. Evenepoel, who is a strong contender for the time trial in Rwanda, is yet to be mentioned as the favourite for the event. However, his main competition is expected to come from the likes of Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia, who won the mountain TT at the Tour de France this year, and Jay Vine of Australia, who finished second in the recent time trial at the Vuelta a España.

Stefan Küng of Switzerland, who has finished in the top-10 four times and on the podium twice in time trials, is another rider to watch out for. Cédrine Kerbaol of France, the national time trial champion, and Isaac del Toro of Mexico, who hopes to become Mexico's first ever World Championships TT medallist, are also strong contenders.

Thymen Arensman of the Netherlands is expected to bring his stage winning form from the Tour de France into the time trial, while Luke Plapp of Australia is another contender in the event. Lotte Kopecky, the European champion from Belgium, will not be participating in the time trial, with Marthe Goosens taking her place.

The elite women's and men's time trials are scheduled for the opening Sunday, 21 September, with the women's race occurring first, followed by the men's. It promises to be an exciting start to the championships, with some of the world's best cyclists vying for the coveted World Championships time trial titles.
